Final Warning

My husband was a rock-star. I've mentioned it before but I've really only shared a picture or two. When we met, he was in an 80's cover band (the singer and guitar player). My best friend Kandi and I had just moved out to Carlsbad, and were soaking up every minute of living in a tiny apartment right by the beach (and dating a guy in a band). We were "groupies" who attended every show. We'd get all dolled up in our homemade band t-shirts and feel like celebrities wearing VIP wrist bands that got us "backstage".  Standing there as my boyfriend's voice filled the air gave me chills every single time. We would sing along until we were hoarse. Kandi would dance on the stage. In the early morning hours, Kandi and I would drive home along the coast with the windows down, the smell of the ocean blowing through the car, and our ears ringing from the loud music. I'd crawl into my bed with a smile on my face.

B and his mom {who never hesitated to head bang if the song called for it. Hardcore fan.}
NOBODY ON THE ROAD, NOBODY ON THE BEACH. I FEEL IT IN THE AIR: THE SUMMER'S OUT OF REACH. EMPTY LAKE. EMPTY STREETS. THE SUN GOES DOWN ALONE. I'M DRIVING BY YOUR HOUSE THOUGH I KNOW YOU'RE NOT HOME. BUT I CAN SEE YOU YOUR BROWN SKIN SHINING IN THE SUN
YOU GOT YOUR HAIR COMB'D BACK AND SUNGLASSES ON BABY. AND I CAN TELL YOU MY LOVE FOR YOU WILL STILL BE STRONG AFTER THE BOYS OF SUMMER HAVE GONE. I NEVER WILL FORGET THOSE NIGHTS. I WONDER IF IT WAS A DREAM. REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE ME CRAZY. REMEMBER HOW I MADE YOU SCREAM
She was a fast machine, she kept her motor clean, she was the best damned woman that I ever seen. She had the sightless eyes, telling me no lies, knocking me out with those American thighs. And you shook me all night longgg
Welcome to the jungle we've got fun and games, we got everything you want honey, we know the names, welcome to the jungle, watch it bring you to your sha knnn knne knees, knees
 Our Final Warning T-shirts
They chose their name from the line in The Wedding Singer,
"and I think I've figured out what's been bothering me. I'm not in love with Robbie, now. I'm in love with Robbie, six years ago. Robbie, the lead singer of Final Warning; I used to come watch you when you were in your silk shirt and Spandex pants, and you would sing into the microphone like you were David Lee Roth."
They sold out The Belly-Up several times
 I wasn't kidding about the t-shirts
And she's watching him with those eyes, and she's lovin' him with that body, I just know it. You know, I wish that I had Jessie's girl...
Still hope my dad doesn't see these pictures ;-)
Just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world, she took the midnight train goin' anywhere. Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit, he took the midnight train goin' anywhere. A singer in a smoky room, a smell of wine and cheap perfume, for a smile they can share the night, it goes on and on and on and on, don't stop believing, hold on to that feeling.

Eventually, Brandon had to exchange his microphone for law books, and late nights for early mornings. I miss his shows more than anything.
Final Warning will always remind me of a sense of adventure and independence...
and of being in love.

ahhh I love it! Totally know how you feel. My husband had his own band as well, and even though work and school makes it difficult for him to play as much as he'd like, he still serenades me every once in a while. Love it!

Amira! You're such a hottie!! I mean, that was obvious before, but DANG GIRL!

I love that your husband had an 80's cover band! So freaking cool. My husband is a killer drummer...something about those musicians, eh? :)

I love 80s music and I've definitely been following around a cover band here in Portland, OR. Sadly, my boyfriend doesn't play in it, but he loves them too. What a fun story!

I've been eagerly awaiting this post - thank you! It's amazing. Can your husbands band reunite and I will fly to SoCal and come see them live? Thanks.

What an awesome post Amira, and what an exciting past life you had! Not many people can say that they were groupies and married a member of the band :) That will be a story for the grandkids one day!

I bet those were fun days. I use to go see a lot of rock cover bands. My hubby looks like a rocker guy (he has long hair), but has never been in a band. Lots of people ask if he was.

Oh my gosh how neat! THis is a great post Amira! These look like some of the best times of your life! I can kinda sorta relate to the hype, one of my good friends was dating a guy in a similar kind of band and we would go to his shows a lot and feel so cool that we knew the band! Looks like he is an awesome singer! Any of his performances on youtube?

Dude, this pictures are amazing!
When I met my hubby, he too was in a band. But they did original stuff, that I did not love. So I'm extremely jealous of the 80's cover band.
And of your perfectly formed cleavage. Good lord girlfriend! B got lucky :)

this is my favorite post you have had to date (and not just because you mentioned my name several times) but because the memories are going to make me smile for days. If only that band would reunite. I love you so much <3

I love these pictures of your hubs in a rock band. My husband was in one when he lived in Vegas but I wasn't around then so I have no awesome groupie pictures! Love yours.

I was in a high school band with Adam Sandler, and we called the band Final Warning, which he then used for the movie. We were actually pretty good!
